Ideal Trip Length Recommender For India- Free Tool
How many days do I need in India is one of the first questions almost every traveller asks, and it is also one of the easiest to get wrong. Book too few days and a promising itinerary turns into a checklist rushed through at speed. Book too many for the regions you actually want to see and the trip starts to feel padded, with travel days added simply to fill the calendar.
The right length depends on how many regions genuinely interest you, the pace you actually enjoy travelling at, and how much time you can realistically take off. This quiz works through those factors and recommends one of four trip lengths, seven, ten, fourteen or twenty one days, each mapped to a real style of itinerary rather than an arbitrary number.
How to Use This Tool
● Answer honestly about the pace you actually enjoy, not the pace you feel you should want.
● Select one answer per question. Your choice is highlighted in gold as you go.
● Watch the progress bar fill in. The See My Ideal Trip Length button unlocks once all five questions are answered.
● Read your result for the recommended length, what it typically includes, and how it maps onto our existing itineraries.
● Use Retake the Quiz if you want to compare results between a shorter, focused trip and a longer, more ambitious one.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum realistic trip length for a first visit to India?
Seven days is workable for a first visit if it is focused purely on the Golden Triangle, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, without trying to add an extension. Going much shorter than this usually means sacrificing either the depth of each stop or adding uncomfortably early starts and late finishes.
Is a ten day trip enough to see India properly?
For the Golden Triangle plus one meaningful extension, such as Ranthambore, yes. Ten days is our most commonly booked length precisely because it strikes that balance, enough time to see a genuine cross section of North India without the trip starting to feel long. It is not enough to properly cover two entirely separate regions such as North and South India.
When does it make sense to plan a two week trip instead of ten days?
Once you want to combine two genuinely distinct regions, North India's heritage circuit with Central India's wildlife parks, for example, or North India with Kerala in the south. Our Central India Jungle Book Trail, sits close to this length and is a good reference point for what a fourteen day itinerary typically includes.
Who should consider a three week or longer trip?
Travellers with a genuinely flexible schedule, a milestone trip such as a significant anniversary, or returning visitors who have already done a shorter itinerary and want to see meaningfully more of the country in one visit. At this length, itineraries are usually built fully bespoke rather than drawn from a single fixed route.
Can I extend a shorter itinerary later if I decide I want more time?
It is far easier to plan the right length from the outset than to extend later, since flights, internal transport and hotel availability are all booked around your original dates. If you are genuinely unsure between two lengths, it is worth discussing both with us before booking rather than assuming you can simply add days afterwards.
More Tips
Once you have a trip length in mind, these pages help fill in the detail.
● Golden Triangle with Ranthambore: the itinerary behind both the 7 day and 10 day results.
● Central India Jungle Book Trail: the itinerary closest to the 14 day two region result.
● Golden Triangle vs South India: useful for deciding which second region to add if your result points toward 14 days or more.
● Luxury vs Premium vs Budget India Tours: worth checking once you have a trip length, since cost estimates in the tier calculator scale directly with the number of days.
If your result feels a little shorter or longer than what you had in mind, it is worth treating it as a useful sense check rather than a fixed answer, the underlying logic, fewer regions suiting shorter trips and multiple regions genuinely needing more time, holds regardless of the exact number of days you ultimately book.
