INR Exchange Rate and Currency Trend Tool
Working out how far your money goes in India starts with a simple question, what is the Rupee actually worth against your home currency right now, and has that moved much over the past year.
Both matter for trip budgeting, since a currency that has weakened against the Rupee over the past twelve months makes now a comparatively better time to book, while one that has strengthened works the other way.
This tool covers all eight of the currencies our travellers most commonly ask about, the British Pound, US Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, Euro, Polish Zloty, Singapore Dollar and Japanese Yen, converting each against the Indian Rupee using live reference rates, alongside a twelve month trend chart so you can see the bigger picture rather than just a single snapshot.
How to Use This Tool
● Select your currency from the dropdown, all eight of our core markets are covered.
● Enter an amount in either box, your home currency or Indian Rupees, the other field updates automatically.
● Use the Swap button to flip which field drives the calculation if you prefer entering a Rupee amount first.
● Read the current rate summary for a plain English statement of today's rate in both directions.
● Check the 12 month trend chart underneath to see whether your currency has strengthened or weakened against the Rupee over the past year, with the percentage change shown above the chart.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these the exact rates I will get when I exchange money?
No. This tool shows the reference or interbank rate, the benchmark rate banks and institutions use among themselves. Any bank, card provider or currency exchange counter will apply their own margin on top, so the rate you actually receive will be slightly less favourable. Use this tool for planning and comparison, not as a quote.
Where do the exchange rates come from?
Rates are pulled from published European Central Bank reference data, updated on business days. This is the same category of benchmark data used across most currency comparison tools and financial websites.
Why does the trend chart only show monthly points rather than every single day?
A twelve month view with daily data would be too dense to read clearly and would not change the practical takeaway, which is the broader direction of travel over the year. Monthly points make the trend easy to read at a glance while still reflecting the real data underneath.
Is now a good time to book based on the exchange rate?
That depends on your own currency's trend and your view on where it is headed, which this tool cannot predict. What it can do is show you clearly where your currency sits today relative to the past year, so you can make that call with better information rather than guessing.
Does a stronger home currency actually make a big difference to trip cost?
It can, particularly on a longer or higher tier trip. A currency movement of five percent against the Rupee over a year, which is well within the normal range shown in the trend chart, translates directly into a similar percentage difference in what your trip costs in your own currency, even if the Rupee price of the tour itself has not changed at all.
Exchange rates are one part of budgeting for an India trip, worth reading alongside the tools that cover the rest.
● Luxury vs Premium vs Budget India Tours: check the tier calculator alongside this tool to see indicative trip costs in your own currency at today's rate.
● Train vs Private Car vs Domestic Flight: internal travel costs are quoted in Rupees, worth converting with this tool to see them in your home currency.
● India Festival Calendar and Trip Planner: exchange rates and festival timing are both worth checking together if you have flexibility on travel dates.
● Jet Lag Recovery Planner: another practical planning tool worth using alongside this one as you firm up your travel dates.
If you are converting a specific tour price rather than a general budget, it is worth remembering that tour prices in Rupees stay fixed while exchange rates move around them, so revisiting this tool closer to your booking date can occasionally work in your favour.
