Overview & Introduction

The Ultimate Northern India Experience: Tigers, Rivers & Sacred Fire

There are journeys that change the way you see the world, and then there is India. And within India, there is this tour, an eight-day odyssey that gives you everything the country is famous for, and more.

The Delhi, Jim Corbett & Rishikesh Tour is one of our most sought-after India holiday packages among travellers from the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. It combines the historic grandeur of Old and New Delhi, the untamed wilderness of Jim Corbett National Park - India's oldest and most celebrated tiger reserve, the rushing white-water of the Ganges at Rishikesh, and the transcendent fire ceremony of the Ganga Aarti at Haridwar, all in one seamlessly designed private itinerary.

Imagine your first morning in Old Delhi, the scent of chai and spices drifting through ancient lanes, rickshaws weaving past centuries-old mosques. Then Jim Corbett, where the sal forest falls silent around you and a Royal Bengal Tiger steps into view. Then the Ganges at Rishikesh, churning white through the Himalayan foothills as you take on the rapids. And finally, Haridwar at dusk, where priests swing brass lamps over the sacred river and the world seems to hold its breath.

This is not just a tour. This is India, all at once.

Day-by-Day Itinerary:

Every day of this tour is crafted to balance sightseeing, travel, rest, and magic. Here is exactly what awaits you.

Day 1: Arrival in Delhi - Your India Story Begins

Your journey to India starts with a warm, professional welcome. Our representative will be waiting for you at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), holding your name card, ready to escort you to your hotel in comfort.

After a long-haul flight, you deserve to settle in gently. Freshen up, rest, and acclimatise. If you land early and feel adventurous, your guide can take you for an evening stroll through a nearby market - your first sensory encounter with India's sights, sounds, and flavours.

Welcome to the world's most extraordinary country. The adventure begins tomorrow.

Overnight: Delhi

Day 2: Delhi Sightseeing - Old Delhi & New Delhi in One Epic Day

Delhi is not one city, it is many worlds layered on top of each other across - 5,000 Years of history. Today, you experience the best of both it's ancient soul and its modern grandeur.

Morning: Old Delhi - Mughal Majesty & Chaotic Charm

Red Fort (Lal Qila)

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the seat of Mughal power for nearly 200 years. Its massive red sandstone walls have witnessed emperors, revolutions, and independence. India's Prime Minister still addresses the nation from here every Independence Day.

Chandni Chowk by Cycle Rickshaw

The most atmospheric bazaar in Asia. Centuries of spice trade, silver jewellery, street food, and textile merchants pressed into narrow lanes. Seeing it from the slow vantage of a cycle rickshaw is one of Delhi's great experiences.

Afternoon: New Delhi - Colonial Grandeur & Architectural Marvels

Humayun's Tomb

Another UNESCO gem. This 16th-century Mughal garden tomb is considered the architectural predecessor of the Taj Mahal. Stroll its manicured Persian-style gardens and marvel at its symmetry, a composition of perfect proportions.

Qutub Minar Complex

The world's tallest brick minaret, standing 73 metres high, surrounded by ancient mosques and iron pillars. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and a monument to medieval India's extraordinary craftsmanship. Between these iconic sites, your guide will bring the history alive with stories of dynasties, battles, and empires.

Overnight: Delhi | Meals: Breakfast

Day 3: Delhi to Jim Corbett (Ramnagar) - Into the Kumaon Forest

This morning, you leave the city behind. The roughly 5 to 6 hour drive north-east to Jim Corbett National Park carries you through the flat Gangetic plains and up into the lush Kumaon foothills of Uttarakhand. The change in landscape is dramatic, the air freshens, forests thicken and the Himalayan horizon begins to emerge on the northern skyline.

Arrive at your forest lodge or jungle resort in the afternoon, in time for a nature walk around the buffer zone with a resident naturalist. Birds fill the trees. The smell of the Sal forest is unlike anything else. Tomorrow, you go in search of the tiger.

Jim Corbett National Park - India's Oldest Tiger Reserve

Established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, Jim Corbett was India's first national park and remains one of its finest. Named after the legendary hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett, this 520 km² reserve in the Shivalik Hills is home to over 260 tigers, one of the largest populations in any protected area on earth. But Corbett is far more than tigers. Asiatic elephants move in herds through the Sal forests. Gharials and mugger crocodiles bask on the Ram Ganga riverbanks. The birdlife is staggering, with over 600 species recorded.

Overnight: Jim Corbett | Meals: Breakfast

Day 4: Jim Corbett National Park - The Day You Meet the Wild

This is what wildlife lovers travel thousands of miles for. Jim Corbett National Park offers some of the finest tiger-spotting conditions in the world. With over 260 tigers roaming its forests, it offers some of the best tiger sighting chances in India. Today belongs entirely to the jungle.

Morning Jungle Safari - When the Forest Wakes Up

You set out before dawn in an open-top jeep, the forest cool and misty. Birds call from the Sal canopy. Spotted deer and sambar graze in the golden early light. Langur monkeys watch from the treetops. Marsh crocodiles lie still on the riverbank. And then, perhaps, a flash of orange and black between the trees. Your heartbeat quickens. The tiger.

Evening Jungle Safari - The Hour of the Predator

The second safari in the evening brings a different energy entirely. The light turns golden, shadows lengthen across the grass, and the predators stir. Tigers, leopards, and a rich cast of wildlife are most active in these cooler hours. Two safaris dramatically increase your chances of a sighting.

Wildlife You May Encounter

Royal Bengal Tiger

Leopard

Asiatic Elephant

Sloth Bear

Gharial and Mugger Crocodile

Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer (Chital), Nilgai

Wild Boar and Indian Python

600+ bird species, including the Great Hornbill and Crested Serpent Eagle

Overnight: Jim Corbett | Meals: Breakfast

Day 5: Jim Corbett to Rishikesh - From the Forest to the Holy River

An optional early morning bonus safari before breakfast, then you depart for Rishikesh - a three-hour scenic drive that takes you through the Shivalik foothills before the sacred Ganges valley opens up below. Rishikesh has been a centre of yoga, meditation, and spiritual learning for centuries, yet it is also the adventure capital of India, where the Ganges runs white with rapids through the Himalayan foothills. The contrast is extraordinary and completely real.

Afternoon in Rishikesh

Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula

Two iconic suspension bridges spanning the Ganges, both festooned with temple bells and colourful prayer flags. Walking across them above the rushing green water, with ashrams clinging to the riverbanks on either side, is one of Rishikesh's great simple pleasures.

The Beatles Ashram (Chaurasi Kutia)

In 1968, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr came to this ashram to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Much of the White Album was composed here. Now abandoned and reclaimed by the forest, its painted walls and meditation domes have a haunting, magical quality.

Spend the evening by the Ganges. Watch the light change on the water. Let India's spiritual depth wash over you.

Overnight: Rishikesh | Meals: Breakfast

Day 6: Rishikesh - Rafting the Ganges & Adventure Day

Today is for adventure. The Ganges above Rishikesh offers some of the best white-water rafting in Asia, from the gentle Grade II rapids at Marine Drive to the churning Grade IV rush at stretches known as The Wall and Three Blind Mice. This morning you take to the water, your guide calling the paddle strokes as the Himalayan foothills race past on either bank.

White-Water Rafting on the Ganges

No prior experience is required. All safety equipment - helmets, life jackets, paddles, are provided. The 16 km Marine Drive stretch is the most popular for first-timers and offers a thrilling mix of calmer stretches for taking in the scenery and heart-pumping rapids that will have your whole group screaming with laughter. Optional cliff jumping at Jump Rock en route.

Afternoon

After the adrenaline of the rapids, the afternoon is yours at leisure. Options include a yoga class at one of Rishikesh's world-famous studios, a walk along the riverbank, exploring the town's cafés, bookshops, and handicraft stalls, or a visit to Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, a stunning Shiva temple set high in the forest above the town.

Overnight: Rishikesh | Meals: Breakfast

Day 7: Haridwar - The Sacred Ghats & Ganga Aarti at Dusk

Just 22 kilometres downstream from Rishikesh, Haridwar is one of the seven holiest cities in Hinduism and the gateway through which the Ganges exits the Himalayas onto the plains. The transformation from adventure town to ancient pilgrimage city is immediate and humbling. Millions of pilgrims bathe in the sacred river here each year. And each evening at Har Ki Pauri Ghat, one of India's most moving rituals takes place.

Har Ki Pauri Ghat

The most sacred bathing steps in Haridwar, believed to mark the precise spot where the Ganges touches the earth from heaven. Pilgrims have been coming here to bathe, pray, and release flower offerings into the river for thousands of years. Simply standing here, watching the river flow past, is a quietly overwhelming experience.

Mansa Devi Temple

A cable car carries you up to this hilltop temple dedicated to the goddess Mansa Devi, offering panoramic views over Haridwar and the shimmering Ganges below. Pilgrims tie threads to the trees here as a symbol of their wishes.

Ganga Aarti at Sunset

As dusk falls on Har Ki Pauri, rows of priests in saffron robes take their places on the ghat steps. They swing great brass lamps in synchronised arcs above the sacred water as bells toll, conches sound and thousands of pilgrims chant and clap. Then the diyas appear, small leaf boats carrying marigolds and a burning wick, released into the current by hundreds of hands until the dark river glitters with moving points of flame.

Few experiences in India or anywhere in the world, can match this.

Overnight: Rishikesh | Meals: Breakfast

Day 8: Return to Delhi - The Journey Home

All great journeys must eventually end but the memories you carry home from this India tour will last a lifetime.

After breakfast, your private vehicle makes the approximately five-hour drive back to Delhi. Depending on your flight time, you can rest at a hotel, visit the craft emporium at Dilli Haat, or pick up last-minute souvenirs from Connaught Place. When the time comes, your driver takes you directly to Indira Gandhi International Airport for a smooth, stress-free departure.

You leave India changed. The tiger, the river, the fire ceremonies, the ancient streets. India does not let go easily. It is a place you carry with you.

Best Time to Visit: When to Book Your India Tour

India is a year-round destination, but for this particular itinerary combining Delhi, Jim Corbett, Rishikesh, and Haridwar, the ideal window is November to June. Jim Corbett's core zones close from mid-June to mid-November during the monsoon season, so please plan accordingly for the safari element.

November – February

Peak season. Cool, crisp weather with excellent visibility. The best conditions for Delhi sightseeing, Corbett safaris, and Haridwar. Tiger activity at its highest. The Ganga Aarti is particularly magical in the cool evening air. This is when the park is at its most atmospheric and wildlife most active.

March – April

Warm and beautiful. The forests are lush, tigers concentrate near waterholes making sightings excellent and the Ganges runs full and powerful, ideal rafting conditions. Pre-peak pricing offers great value. One of our favourite times to visit.

May – June (until mid-June)

Hot, but Jim Corbett stays open until mid-June and tiger sighting probability actually peaks as animals concentrate around the few remaining water sources. Excellent for dedicated wildlife photographers. Not recommended for those sensitive to heat.

July – October (Monsoon)

Jim Corbett's core zones are closed July to mid-November. The landscapes are lush and dramatic but the safari element of this tour is not possible during these months. Rishikesh rafting also pauses during peak monsoon due to high water levels.
