Mumbai Glamour + Goa Sunshine: India’s Ultimate Leisure Escape

India is many things. It is ancient temples and sacred rivers. It is forts and maharajas and the Taj Mahal. But it is also this: a sun-drenched coastline stretching for thousands of kilometres, where the Arabian Sea meets golden sand beaches, where beach shacks serve fresh seafood and ice-cold drinks at sunset, where the nights are warm and the music plays until the stars fade.

The Goa Beach Holiday & Mumbai City Tour combines two of India’s most iconic and beloved experiences in one perfectly paced seven-day package. Mumbai, the City of Dreams, India’s financial and entertainment capital, home to Bollywood, colonial grandeur, and the world’s most dramatic urban waterfront. And Goa India’s most loved beach destination for international travellers, where Portuguese colonial history, tropical nature, and a uniquely laid-back culture create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Asia.

This tour is designed for couples, honeymooners, groups of friends, and leisure travellers from the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia who want India’s most enjoyable, relaxed, and sun-filled experience without the complexity of a heritage circuit. It is India at its most fun, its most beautiful, and its most effortlessly pleasurable.

Two cities. One ocean. Endless memories. This is India’s best beach holiday, and it begins the moment you land.

Day by Day Itinerary: Your 7-Day Mumbai & Goa Adventure

This itinerary is designed to give you the very best of both worlds - Mumbai’s energy and glamour, then Goa’s sunshine and soul at a pace that feels enjoyable rather than exhausting. Every day has been curated to balance sightseeing with downtime, so you always have space to breathe, explore, and simply enjoy being somewhere wonderful.

Day 1: Arrival in Mumbai - Welcome to the City of Dreams

Your India adventure begins at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where our private representative will be waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in comfort.

Mumbai is India’s most cosmopolitan, energetic, and cinematic city, a place of extraordinary contradictions where Bollywood glamour and colonial grandeur and street-food culture all coexist within blocks of each other. It operates at a pace and intensity that is exhilarating from the first moment.

After a long-haul flight, today is intentionally relaxed. Check in, freshen up, and if you arrive with energy to spare, your guide can take you for an easy evening introduction to Mumbai:

Optional Evening: Marine Drive - The Queen’s Necklace

A drive along Marine Drive, Mumbai’s legendary 3.5-kilometre seafront promenade on the Arabian Sea, is one of the great urban pleasures in Asia. At night, the arc of city lights reflected in the dark water earns it its famous nickname: the Queen’s Necklace. The sea breeze, the city skyline, and the feeling of arrival in one of the world’s great cities make this the perfect first evening in Mumbai.

Overnight: Mumbai | Meals: As per flight

Day 2: Mumbai Sightseeing Icons, Islands & Ocean Vibes

Mumbai rewards those who look beyond its surface. Today you explore its most iconic landmarks from a UNESCO World Heritage island cave complex to the most photographed railway station on Earth with a beautiful stretch of coast in between.

Gateway of India & Elephanta Caves: A UNESCO Morning

Your day begins at the Gateway of India, the magnificent basalt arch monument built in 1924 on the Apollo Bunder waterfront to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary. It is Mumbai’s most iconic landmark and the city’s symbolic gateway to the world. From here, you board the public ferry for the one-hour crossing to Elephanta Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site set in Mumbai Harbour.

The Elephanta Caves are a collection of rock-cut cave temples dating from the 5th to 8th centuries AD, carved into the basalt hillside of Gharapuri Island. The main cave is dedicated to Lord Shiva and contains some of the finest examples of Indian rock-cut sculpture anywhere in the world. The centrepiece is the extraordinary Trimurti, a 6-metre-high, three-faced representation of Shiva as creator, preserver, and destroyer, carved with a serenity and power that continues to astonish visitors and scholars alike.

The ferry journey itself is a pleasure, the Mumbai skyline receding behind you, the harbour full of fishing boats and cargo vessels, and the island appearing ahead like a green jewel in the water.

Colaba Causeway: Mumbai’s Most Atmospheric Market Street

Back on the mainland, the afternoon begins with a stroll through Colaba Causeway, Mumbai’s most famous street market, running from the Gateway of India southward through the city’s most characterful neighbourhood. Here you’ll find everything from antique brass lamps and hand-embroidered textiles to silver jewellery, leather goods, and Bollywood posters. The street is lined with colonial-era buildings, pavement cafés, and the legendary Leopold Café, one of Mumbai’s most beloved institutions, open since 1871.

Marine Drive: Mumbai’s Oceanfront Soul

An afternoon drive along Marine Drive gives you the full sweep of Mumbai’s spectacular seafront, the gentle curve of the bay, the art deco buildings lining the boulevard, and the Arabian Sea stretching to the horizon. Stop for a moment and watch the city: joggers and lovers, street vendors and schoolchildren, all sharing the same beautiful stretch of Indian Ocean coastline.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus: The World’s Most Beautiful Railway Station

Your sightseeing day ends at one of India’s most extraordinary buildings. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, known as CST or by its former name Victoria Terminus - is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and possibly the most astonishing railway station in the world. Built between 1878 and 1887 by British architect F. W. Stevens in an exuberant blend of Victorian Gothic and Indian architectural traditions, its domes, turrets, flying buttresses, and stone carvings are breath taking. Over three million passengers pass through it every day, yet it remains one of Mumbai’s greatest works of art.

Overnight: Mumbai | Meals: Breakfast

Day 3: Mumbai to Goa - The Most Scenic Train Ride in India

Today is one of the great journey days of this tour and for many travellers, an unexpected highlight of the entire India trip.

You board a Premium AC fast train from Mumbai and travel the famous Konkan Railway, widely considered one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world. Completed in 1998, the Konkan line runs for 741 kilometres along India’s west coast, passing through terrain so dramatic that it required the construction of 91 tunnels and 2,000 bridges.

The Konkan Railway: A Journey Through India’s Most Beautiful Coastline

As the train leaves Mumbai, the city gives way to something extraordinary. For the next several hours, the world outside your window changes constantly:

• Lush green hills and dense forest tumbling down to the sea, especially vivid in and after the monsoon season.

• Rivers and estuaries crossed by dramatic steel bridges, the water glinting below.

• Waterfalls cascading directly onto the railway tracks — one of India’s most spectacular natural spectacles.

• Coconut palm groves and terracotta-roofed villages of the Konkan coast — some of India’s most unchanged and characterful rural landscapes.

• The Arabian Sea appearing and disappearing between hillsides and forest, every glimpse a reminder of how close the ocean always is.

The Konkan Railway journey is, on its own terms, a travel experience worth having. Many of our guests from the UK and USA name it among their favourite moments in India — the sheer beauty of the landscape, combined with the pleasure of travelling through it in a comfortable, unhurried train, is something that stays with you.

You arrive in Goa in the afternoon. Your driver is waiting at Madgaon (Margao) Railway Station for a smooth transfer to your beach hotel. Check in, change into something lighter, and step outside. You are in Goa. The Arabian Sea is close. The evening is warm. The holiday begins.

Overnight: Goa | Meals: Breakfast

Day 4: North Goa - Beaches, Forts & the Perfect Sunset

North Goa is the vibrant, sun-drenched heart of Goa’s beach culture, where the most famous beaches, the liveliest beach shacks, and the most dramatic Portuguese-era forts come together in one spectacular stretch of coastline. Today you explore its finest offerings.

Calangute & Baga Beach: The Golden Heart of Goa

Calangute is Goa’s most famous beach and often called the Queen of Beaches, a wide, golden arc of sand backed by beach shacks, restaurants, and shops. Next door, Baga Beach has a slightly more energetic character, with water sports, beach parties, and some of Goa’s best-known beach bars. Together they offer the classic Goa beach experience: sun-loungers, fresh coconut water, the sound of the waves, and that deeply pleasurable tropical beach idleness that only Goa does quite right.

Fort Aguada & Aguada Lighthouse: Portuguese Power on the Sea

Built by the Portuguese in 1612 at the mouth of the Mandovi River, Fort Aguada is the finest and best-preserved Portuguese fort in Goa. Its name - ‘aguada’ meaning water in Portuguese, refers to its function as a freshwater supply point for Portuguese ships crossing the Arabian Sea. The fort’s ramparts offer sweeping views over the ocean, and the attached lighthouse, built in 1864, is one of Goa’s most photographed landmarks. The combination of Portuguese colonial history, sea views, and dramatic architecture makes this one of Goa’s most satisfying sightseeing stops.

Anjuna Beach & Vagator Cliff: Where Goa Finds Its Wild Side

Anjuna Beach has a legendary status in Goa’s history as the original gathering point of the hippie trail in the 1960s and 1970s, when travellers from Europe and America discovered this stretch of dramatic, rocky-fringed coastline and never quite left. Today it retains a distinctly free-spirited character, with bohemian beach cafés, a famous Wednesday flea market, and some of Goa’s most characterful bars and restaurants. Nearby Vagator’s clifftop views over the Arabian Sea are among the most dramatic in North Goa.

Chapora Fort at Sunset: The Most Romantic View in Goa

The day ends at Chapora Fort, a ruined Portuguese hilltop fortress that has become Goa’s most beloved sunset spot. As the sun descends toward the Arabian Sea and the light turns amber and gold, the fort’s old walls frame one of the most spectacular views in all of India: the river, the beaches, the palm trees, and the open ocean, all lit in the warm colours of a Goa evening. For couples and honeymooners especially, this is a moment that needs no further description.

Overnight: Goa | Meals: Breakfast

Day 5: Old Goa & Panjim - Where Europe Met India

Goa’s beaches are magnificent, but Goa’s history is equally extraordinary. Today you explore the other side of Goa: the UNESCO World Heritage churches of Old Goa and the charming colonial city of Panjim, where Portuguese architecture, Latin Quarter cobblestones, and riverside cafés create an atmosphere quite unlike anywhere else in India.

Old Goa: The Rome of the Orient

Old Goa was the capital of Portuguese India from the 16th to the 18th century, at its peak, one of the largest and most prosperous cities in Asia, rivalling Lisbon and London in size and importance. Today its churches and convents are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and they are genuinely magnificent.

Basilica of Bom Jesus: Built in 1605, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in Asia and one of the most important Catholic churches in India. It houses the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier — the 16th-century Jesuit missionary who brought Christianity to South and Southeast Asia — preserved in a silver casket of extraordinary craftsmanship. The Basilica is visited by pilgrims and travellers from across the world.

Se Cathedral: The largest church in Asia, built between 1562 and 1619, the Se Cathedral is a monumental Portuguese-Gothic structure dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. Its famous Golden Bell — the largest bell in Goa — is said to have the finest tone in India.

Panjim (Panaji): A Portuguese Town on the Mandovi River

Goa’s small, charming capital is one of India’s most distinctive cities, a place of whitewashed colonial buildings, terracotta-tiled rooftops, and wide tree-lined avenues that could easily be mistaken for a town in southern Portugal.

Fontainhas Latin Quarter: Panjim’s most atmospheric neighbourhood is a UNESCO-listed heritage zone of narrow lanes, brightly painted colonial houses (in yellow, blue, green, and pink), art galleries, and small cafés. Walking these streets is one of the great pleasures of a Goa visit, especially in the early morning, when the light is soft and the lanes are quiet.

Riverside Cafés & Lunch: Panjim’s waterfront and market area offer some of Goa’s finest cafés and restaurants, many specialising in the extraordinary Goan-Portuguese fusion cuisine: prawn balchao, fish recheado, bebinca dessert, and the famous Goan fish curry served with red rice, some of the best food in all of India.

Dona Paula & Miramar: Goa’s Evening Coastline

The afternoon ends with two beautiful coastal stops. Dona Paula is a dramatic sea-facing viewpoint on a rocky headland where the Zuari and Mandovi rivers meet the Arabian Sea, a place of sweeping views and romantic legend. Miramar Beach, Panjim’s own stretch of golden sand along the Mandovi estuary, is perfect for an evening stroll as the sun descends and the fishing boats return to shore.

Overnight: Goa | Meals: Breakfast

Day 6: South Goa - The Quiet, Beautiful Side of Paradise

If North Goa is vibrant and festive, South Goa is its elegant, unhurried counterpart, longer beaches, fewer crowds, cleaner water, and a pace so relaxed that time seems to slow down. Today you discover what many consider to be Goa’s finest landscapes.

Colva & Benaulim Beach: South Goa’s Gentle Giants

Colva Beach is one of South Goa’s most beloved stretches of sand, a wide, white arc of beach backed by coconut palms and small beach shacks serving fresh seafood and cold drinks. It is quieter and less commercialised than the northern beaches, with a gentle, unhurried atmosphere that is perfect for long mornings by the sea. Benaulim, just a few kilometres south, is even calmer, a favourite of European long-stay visitors and a perfect place for an hour of genuine, restorative beach time.

Palolem Beach: South Goa’s Most Scenic Crescent

Palolem is considered by many visitors and travel writers to be the most beautiful beach in all of Goa. A near-perfect crescent of golden sand framed by headlands and coconut palms, with warm, calm, shallow water ideal for swimming. The beach has a relaxed village atmosphere, lined with wooden beach huts and cafés that serve exceptional fresh fish, cold beer, and spectacular views. If you have one afternoon in Goa to simply lie on a beach and feel completely at peace with the world, this is the beach to do it on.

Cabo de Rama Fort: A Cliff-Top Kingdom Above the Sea

One of Goa’s least-visited but most dramatic locations, Cabo de Rama Fort sits on a high rocky promontory at the southern edge of Goa, with sheer cliffs dropping to the Arabian Sea far below. The fort predates the Portuguese (it was an ancient Hindu stronghold before they captured it in 1763) and its crumbling ramparts offer some of the most wild and spectacular coastal views in all of Goa. On a clear day, the view stretches for kilometres along the coastline, a scene of extraordinary beauty.

Flexible Return Options on Day 6:

Option A: Return to Mumbai on Day 6 afternoon, board the AC fast train from Madgaon in the afternoon, arriving Mumbai late evening. Ideal if you have an early-to-mid morning flight the following day.

Option B: Stay in Goa for an extra night, enjoy one final morning on the beach and return to Mumbai on Day 7 afternoon, arriving late evening. Ideal for late-night or early next-morning departures.

Overnight: Goa (or Mumbai if Option A) | Meals: Breakfast

Day 7 (Optional): A Final Goa Morning + Return to Mumbai

For those who choose to spend one last night in Goa, Day 7 offers a beautifully relaxed final morning before the journey home.

Morning Leisure: Last Beach, Last Sunshine

Sleep in. Take a long breakfast at your hotel or a beachside café. Take one final swim or walk along the sand you have come to love over the past few days. Goa has a way of making you want to stay, and this morning gives you the time to simply be here, without an itinerary.

Anjuna or Mapusa Market (if available)

If the timing aligns, the famous Anjuna Flea Market (Wednesdays) or Mapusa Market (Fridays) is the perfect last-morning activity: a riot of colour, sound, and commerce where you can find Kashmiri shawls, silver jewellery, handmade clothing, spices, Goan sausages, and the kind of eclectic, characterful shopping that only Goa offers.

The Return Journey: Goa to Mumbai by Konkan Rail

In the afternoon, your driver transfers you to Madgaon Railway Station for the return AC fast train to Mumbai. The Konkan Railway journey is just as spectacular in the opposite direction, some guests say they prefer the northbound journey, as the late afternoon light on the forest and rivers is particularly golden and beautiful.

You arrive in Mumbai in the late evening, where your representative arranges your final airport transfer for your onward international flight home. The journey ends as it began: smoothly, comfortably, and with every detail taken care of.

You leave India with sand between your toes, the smell of the Arabian Sea in your hair, and the memory of a sunset over Chapora Fort that no photograph will ever fully capture. That is Goa. That is this tour.

Best Time to Visit Goa & Mumbai

Goa is a year-round destination in terms of accommodation and culture, but for beach holidays, the window from October to March is ideal, dry, sunny, and warm without the intensity of the pre-monsoon heat.

October – November

Post-monsoon Goa at its most lush and green. Beaches freshly washed, water clean and warm. Fewer crowds and competitive prices. Excellent choice.

December – February

Peak season. Perfect beach weather (28–32°C). Christmas and New Year in Goa is one of India’s great festive experiences. Book hotels early.

March

Still excellent. Warm, sunny, and slightly less crowded than December–January. Good value.

April – May

Hot and increasingly humid. Beach time is limited to early morning and evening. Not ideal for first-time visitors.

June – September

Monsoon season. Goa transforms into a lush, dramatic, rain-soaked landscape, beautiful in its own way, but most beaches are rough, beach shacks close, and water activities are suspended.

New Year in Goa:

If you can visit over New Year’s Eve, Goa is one of the most spectacular celebrations in all of Asia beach parties, live music, fireworks over the Arabian Sea, and an atmosphere of extraordinary warmth and joy. Book well in advance as hotels fill up months ahead.

Optional Activities in Goa: Make Your Holiday Your Own

Beyond the beaches and sightseeing, Goa offers an extraordinary range of optional activities that can be added to any day of your stay. Your guide can arrange these on request:

Watersports (Baga / Calangute)

Jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides, windsurfing. Available from beach operators daily.

Old Quarter Cycling Tour

Guided bicycle tour through Panjim’s Fontainhas and Old Goa heritage areas.
